A. Background
The existence of Credit Union Sauan Sibarrung (CUSS) as people's financial institution that present in the midst of society is such real manifestation and concern of Catholic Church towards the difficult problems that society faces today. The Archdiocese of Makassar's (Makassar) Social Development Economic Development Commission (KAMS) is trying to develop and encourage the "empowerment" with mentoring programs to microfinance institutions in KAMS region, especially the Credit Union. The basic vision of accompaniment is the creation of professional financial institution based on the local community by taking into account on local cultural and environmental / natural elements with the spirit of the Gospel and values and principles of Credit Union. The main goal of mentoring is to implement the acknowledgment and training that can help CU activists and members in designing and developing professional financial institution and able to realize the welfare of its members. This program is followed up in several stages. In the first phase, assistance is provided through education and training. Since September 1, 2006, the PSE Commission of KAMS has held several CU motivation and socialization lessons in several places / parishes such as: Bone-Bone Parish, Rantetayo Parish, Nanggala Parish, Makale Parish, Parish of Padang Sappa, Messawa Parish, Mamuju Parish, Saluampak Parish , Deri Parish, Rembon Parish, Unaaha Parish, Labasa Parish, and Parish of Kevikepan Makassar Parishes.
B. Strategic Planning Credit Union
In its development, several parishes in the Region of Toraja responded positively to the idea of empowerment through this CU movement. After several motivational courses and core group meetings, it was agreed to organize a "Strategic Planning CU Workshop" for the establishment of a modern "CU" in Tana Toraja, South Sulawesi. The workshop was held on 4-8 December 2006 in Makale, Tana Toraja. This activity was facilitated directly by PSE KAMS Chairman P. Fredy Rante Taruk, Pr along with 4 facilitators from BK3D Kalimantan, namely: Mr. AR Mecer (Chairman of BK3D Kalimantan), Mr. Frans Laten (Manager BK3D Kalimantan), Mr. Mistrik (Deputy POR Pancur Love) and Mr. Eduard Susanto (POR Pancur Kasih Staff). The workshop was attended by 83 participants from Makale Parish, Rantetayo, Rantepao, Nonongan, Nanggala, Deri, Pangli, Tombanglambe and Mengkendek as well as Bone-Bone Parish.
C. Declaration of CU Sauan Sibarrung
There were 83 workshop participants who jointly agreed to "declare" the establishment of a CU "CU Sauan Sibarrung" on December 7, 2006. CU Sauan Sibarrung has a vision of becoming a "Tough and Trustworthy Community Based Financial Institution Based on Values And Credit Union Principles ". The mission carried out by CU Sauan Sibarrung is "Welfare of members through continuous education and training so that members have an awareness of the importance of life planned and managed wisely with an average member savings of at least 5 million." The vision and mission of CU Sauan Sibarrung is followed up in some strategic steps such as Policy Pattern, Goals, Cash Flow, Work Plan, Training and Promotion Program and so forth.
